Different trends are encouraging the sector to change. It is continuously shaped on the one hand by increasing energy needs due to electrification and population growth; and on the other hand by changing needs driven by digitization and urbanization. Energy transition is clearly central to the sustainable development of the sector, and requires smart infrastructures and technologies to manage and store intermittent renewable energies. The reliability and continuity of supply as well as energy efficiency remain underlying key sectorial challenges to tackle while affordability needs to be center stage to leave no one behind.
