IDELUX

Improving sustainability performance monitoring

Since 1962, IDELUX has pursued an ambitious mission: to improve the well-being of the citizens in the regions we serve. Headquartered in Arlon, Belgium, we work with Belgian municipalities in the province of Luxembourg in three main areas: regional development, water management and waste management. We also serve 11 municipalities in Liège in waste management. As a cooperative company with limited liability (scrl), we aim to meet the needs of municipalities, citizens and businesses.

The challenge

IDELUX is responsible for the management of key areas – regional development, water and waste management – which contribute to shape the sustainable development of the territory. To better drive and ensure a responsible transition, we needed to deepen the monitoring and transparency of our sustainability performance.

The strategy

Beyond transparency, IDELUX focused on reporting on what matters most regarding its core activities and impacts along its value chain. This is why the Group adopted a step-by-step approach:

  • Training to the GRI reporting standards to better grasp the international requirements to align with;
  • Economic, social and environmental impact assessment of the three activities – regional development, water and waste management – be it direct and indirect;
  • Prioritization of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) to significantly contribute to and to report on;
  • Structuration of a sustainability report using the GRI standards content and quality principles.

The outcomes

While we still have challenges ahead, IDELUX has made sizeable progress when it comes to sustainable development. Our Sustainability reports 2018 & 2019 paved the way to thorough monitoring and greater performance expectations that we will meet.

Since we decided to go further with our sustainability commitments in the last years, Forethix has been a reliable partner to work with.
